BIO

Lisa Williams is a Michigan-based artist specializing in abstraction and fluid acrylics. The inspiration for her work is rooted in the emotive process and its association to color, shape, and texture. Her use of air, fire, and water, as well as ordinary household items, serve as her tools, creating uniquely hypnotic abstract works.

Lisa’s style is located at the intersection of submission and defiance. Humans are creatures with a natural disposition to structure and norms. Cognitively, we tend to more easily process representational art or pieces depicting reality due to its familiarity. There is a standard for which to understand it. Lisa challenges this notion by removing the barrier of familiarity, encouraging the viewer to develop a solitary, intimate perspective based on what emotions arise.
